Dr. Biermann at Biermann Orthodontics Has Offered Braces for Overbite Correction in Beaverton for Over 17 Years — We Have Hundreds of Five Star Reviews From Patients Like You
“So grateful for the team at Biermann Orthodontics!! Although I had braces as a teen, over the years my teeth moved and it affected my bite and aesthetically it also bothered me. I considered orthodontics for years but was hesitant to pursue treatment thinking it was too expensive and I was too old, etc.Luckily, we were referred to Dr. Biermann when my daughter needed to start treatment. After meeting the team it was clear this could be much easier then I originally thought. Everyone on the team is kind and knowledgeable. They strive for punctuality with appointments being on time or even earlier. Initially I was advised my alignment could take a year; here I am 4 months later, done with treatment and so happy with the results. If you need orthodontic care, don’t hesitate to go for a consultation- you will be glad you did! ”
“Dr. Biermann and his staff are amazing and did everything to alleviate any concerns I had. They communicated their step by step process, provided great treatment, and are super sweet!! I absolutely enjoyed our conversations and overall atmosphere. Overall I have no regrets and I am happy with the results. The only drawback is that I did not feel like Dr. Biermann has a lot of patients that are avid clenchers or have mild TMJ like myself. This meant that I had to put a lot of trust in the final results, since it could make my clenching or TMJ worse. So far so good though.”
“This was our second experience with orthodontics and I couldn’t be more satisfied. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Prompt service. Took away all worries and concerns about my daughter’s needs. I recommend Biermann Orthodontics!”
“Dr. Biermann and his team are extremely professional and friendly! Getting my orthodontics treatment from them was the best decision of my life. It was a slow and steady process, needed a lot of patience, but in the end it was all worth it. I love my new smile and will forever be grateful for the treatment I received from them!”
“What a wonderful experience with Dr. Biermann, Rachelle, Clay and the Orthodontics team! My daughter needed braces, and they were attentive to her needs, answering questions and making sure she was comfortable with the process. The consultation was very thorough and they really take the time to provide the best care.I would highly recommend them to anyone!”
“They’re very friendly and welcoming. Biermann and team provided complimentary checkup and shared their suggestions for my kid. I really recommend Biermann Orthodontics for all your dental check-ups.”
“Biermann Orthodontics has been really fantastic. I originally went for a consultation with a different orthodontist who looked in my mouth for 3 minutes and said I needed full top and bottom metal braces for 2 years. At Biermann Orthodontics their free consultation included photos, x-rays, imaging, and a dental exam. They were able to show me what my teeth and bite would look like after Invisalign, which was my preferred treatment plan. Rachelle and Dr. Biermann are also incredibly friendly and willing to answer any questions. Their office and equipment are clearly state of the art. By the end of the consultation, I knew I wanted my orthodontic work done here, but I was worried what it was going to cost. It cost LESS than I was quoted at the first orthodontist. The price for the entire treatment plan was very reasonable. This orthodontist office is very friendly, clean, inviting, and has modern equipment. Mix all that with really good prices. Highly recommend. Much thanks to Rachelle for all her help.”
“The staff at Biermann Orthodontics welcomed my husband and I from the moment we had our first consultations. They are always happy to see us and very energetic. They listened to both of our needs and wants and made that become a reality. We are very happy with our new smiles and would definitely recommend them.”
“My experience with Biermann Orthodontics exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Dr. Biermann conducted a thorough examination and customized my Invisalign treatment plan to accommodate previous and additional dental crowns I needed to have placed. The staff did an excellent job of breaking down my treatment plan, were very communicative, and made me feel comfortable at every appointment. They were extremely accommodating and helped coordinate my additional dental work upon finalizing my treatment. I’m extremely happy with the results of my Invisalign treatment and experience with Dr. Biermann and team. Thank you!!”
“My daughter got her braces off today. Our experience with Dr. Biermann and all the staff has been great. Our dentist discussed pulling some of her teeth, but Dr. Biermann was able to fix her teeth without pulling a single tooth. Everyone at Biermann Orthodontics is professional and friendly.”
Our Friendly Team Provides Experience with Orthodontics For Overbites
Adult braces can be a little more complex due to bone structure, bone loss, and the time needed for treatment. If you are looking for orthodontics for overbites, our team is prepared to assist you with a different level of care that might be necessary. Our experienced team is here to confidently make a plan to get you smiling with as little discomfort as possible.
Gum Disease and Tooth Decay
People with a pronounced overbite are at risk of damaging their gums as their teeth may contact the gum of the opposite jaw while chewing.
More prominent overbites may also cause the lower front teeth to hit the gum behind the upper front teeth, leading to swollen, inflamed, and damaged gum tissue. This can contribute to gum disease and, in vulnerable individuals, may eventually result in tooth loss.
Additionally, overbites may cause enamel erosion that may lead to excessive wear and tear on your teeth, which can result in an increased risk of:
Cavities
Chipped or broken teeth
Jaw pain or TMJ
Headaches
And more
Affected Profile and Jaw Appearance
Some overbites may impact the appearance of both the jaw and facial profile to a certain extent. This happens when the upper teeth excessively overlap the lower teeth. Overlaps may create a “protruding” look, which makes the lower jaw appear recessed or set back. Misalignments, like overbites, may also impact facial profiles by creating a more pronounced chin and making the face appear less balanced.
Correcting an overbite with braces can help realign the teeth and jaw, improving both function and the aesthetic appearance of the profile, leading to a more harmonious and balanced facial look.
Discomfort and Difficulty Chewing
When the teeth are misaligned, they may not come together properly, leading to uneven pressure when biting or chewing. This can strain the jaw muscles, potentially leading to pain or soreness, particularly in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
Additionally, the misalignment can make it harder to chew food effectively, as the upper and lower teeth may not meet in a way that allows for efficient grinding. A prominent overbite may result in patients needing more effort to chew and, over time, may even cause tooth wear or damage.
Answering the Most Frequently Asked Questions About Braces for Overbite Correction
Question #1: How Are Braces Handled With Patients With Overbites?
Our goal with orthodontic treatment for overbites is to treat our patients so they can get beautiful results from braces while also enhancing their profile, strengthening their oral health, and eliminating any discomfort caused by the misalignment.
At Biermann Orthodontics, we take special time to thoroughly examine patients and craft special treatment plans that guarantee optimal results for our patients. It’s not only about the end result but the journey. Throughout your treatment process, we will monitor your progress and make adjustments when needed to maximize our efforts while ensuring you are comfortable.
Question #2: Will I Need To Wear Retainers After Braces To Ensure My Overbite Does Not Return?
Yes. Once your braces are removed, you will need to wear a retainer to ensure your overbite does not return. Braces correct malocclusions, such as overbites) by shifting the surrounding bone and tissues. Once the braces have done their job, the affected area still needs time to stabilize and hold the teeth in place. Retainers help keep the teeth from moving back as the area fully heals and settles.
Depending on your treatment plan. We generally recommend wearing a retainer full-time for the first few months after your braces are removed. After that, you can usually transition to wearing it only at night.
Retainers are essential for maintaining the results of your treatment and preventing relapse, so it’s important to keep using your retainer well after your braces have been removed.
Question #3: Can Braces Correct a Severe Overbite?
Braces may correct some severe overbites, but treatment may take longer and involve a combination of appliances for braces and treatment methods. For example, very severe overbites affecting the jaw bone may require dentofacial surgery in conjunction with braces to achieve the best results, whereas pronounced but less complicated overbites may only need additional appliances like rubber bands or expanders. It all depends on your case.
However, most cases of severe overbites can be treated with braces alone.
Biermann Orthodontics specializes in complex cases like severe overbites. Our experience and knowledge are just one of the many reasons we are one of the preferred referred orthodontists in the Beaverton and Portland area!
Question #4: How Long Do You Need Braces for an Overbite?
Although orthodontic treatment has advanced considerably in recent years, correcting a deep overbite remains one of the longest conditions to treat with braces.
Each overbite case is unique. Treatment can take anywhere from 6 months to a couple of years, depending on the complexity.
