Surgical Orthodontics
As with other areas of the body, jaw growth is generally a gradual process. However, in some casses the upper and lower jaws can grow at different rates, causing a variety of problems. These problems can affect your ability to speak, chew, breathe, and sleep. Injuries to the jaw and some birth defects can also affect jaw alignment.
Your orthodontist can correct bite, or occulusion, problems when only the teeth are misaligned, but for more severe misalignment issues, surgical orthodontics may be required.
